Hi,

Is the RAM speed important for a VR capable machine?

I'm looking at the following to upgrade my system
Intel i7-8700
GTX1080
16GB RAM
Samsung 960 250GB SSD

Thanks

Its important for speed of the system. So if I were you Id get some good RAM, I have a similar build. GSkill TridentZ 3200MHz 2x8GB and it flies.

Just make sure you go into your BIOS settings and turn on XMP otherwise it will run the ram at the base speed.

Also the Samsung 960 SSD is a real performer. I actually own the 512GB version and its nice.

3200 cl16 should be plenty. You will want a bigger ssd or a secondary standard SATA ssd for VR games - the tend to be large installs and incredibly slow to load off a HDD.

before getting higher RAM frequencies, would get a 8700K. You won´t have to OC, but it´s got 500MHz more base clock than the non "K" CPU, which will get you more out of your machine than quicker RAM on an Intel system

The case this system has to fit into is very very small and so I can only fit a cooler for 65W TDP so it has to be an 8700 not 8700K and definitely can't do any OC'ing
