The Dell XPS 15 is no longer a laptop that is generally worth buying, because it does not offer the upgraded 1920x1080 display anymore.
15.6" 1366x768 displays, such as the stock display offered with the Dell XPS 15 and now the only display offered, make things onscreen large and tend to have very poor image quality due to low contrast. I recommend against buying laptops that come with this type of display to those who have a budget that allows them to get a laptop that has a better display and still suits their needs, and who don't require larger text for eyesight-related reasons.

In addition, you can easily get a more powerful GPU for the price of the Dell XPS 15. The GT 540M, despite being a $100 upgrade above the GT 525M, is only ~12% faster. The GT 525M and GT 540M are fine for light/moderate gaming, but if game performance is a primary factor for you then it may be in your best interest to find a faster GPU.

Consider the HP DV6t Quad Edition, with the upgraded GPU and the upgraded display.

- This is a saved configuration that includes the NVIDIA GT 650M GPU upgrade, and the 1920x1080 display upgrade.
- Don't downgrade the GPU to the GT 630M. The GT 630M (equivalent to a GT 540M) is much slower than the GT 650M.
- Don't pay to upgrade to the 2GB version of the GT 650M over the 1GB GT 650M. The memory alone will not make a significant difference in game performance, because the core of the GT 650M is more of a bottleneck than 1GB of GDDR5 memory is.
- Don't downgrade the display to 1366x768. You shouldn't buy an HP DV6t Quad Edition in any configuration that includes the stock 1366x768 display unless you require larger text for eyesight-related reasons.
- Upgrades worth considering: Backlit Keyboard (+$25), mSSD Cache (+$50). But not at sacrifice of the GPU and display upgrades included in the saved configuration.

Alternatively, the Sager NP6165 has the same GPU and a (glossy) 1920x1080 display.

- Select Windows 7 under Operating System (+$80), or the computer will come without an Operating System pre-installed.
