Dell xps15 red vertical lines on screen

I have a Dell XPS15 (L511Z) which has worked well for 18 months. Graphics is NVIDIA Geforce GT 525M.

Now I am getting a number of short thin vertical red and orange lines towards one side of the screen. I am wondering if anyone can assist in determining whether this a a screen, graphics card or software problem and how to rectify.

If your dell has an external monitor jack,plug external monitor into it.
If external has no red lines, your laptop screen needs replacing.

If the red line is still there on external monitor too, it's most likely the laptop's graphics adapter that's developed a fault.
