Hi all,

I'm trying to connect my Lenovo Ideapad 710S to a Dell P2719H monitor. The monitor came with a Display port cable (both ends) which my laptop does not have as it has the old type 3.0 USB. Is there a docking station, certain cable or adaptor that I can obtain to connect the two? It seems most docking stations and adaptors I have looked at have the newer USB type C connector which fits and works with my Ipad Pro (I tried it and it worked so nothing wrong with the monitor), but I want to connect my laptop. If there is not an easy solution is it time to update my laptop?

First, that monitor also has an HDMI port, your laptop has an HDMI video out (looks like a Micro size). Why not use a $15 cable vs buying a $100-150 docking station? https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-High-Speed-Micro-Cable-RedMere/dp/B014I8U6N0?th=1

If you still want a dock to keep other things connected, there are USB 3 docks with display port connections but they are quite a bit more expensive than the ones with HDMI https://www.amazon.com/Kensington-D...B081RQN17Z/ref=psdc_778660_t4_B07CRSH25X?th=1 https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Docking-Station-HDMI-DisplayPort/dp/B00OD37E4A

So again, you can buy a cheaper dock with HDMI and use that with an HDMI cable for cheaper.
