Discolored screen on my daughter's Acer laptop

I set a warm container on my daughter's closed laptop and now the screen is an array of crazy colors and shapes. I could barely make out her screen saver yesterday but it is just white now with these funky black shapes. Anything I can do myself to repair or at least try?

Leave it off and untouched for a day or two. See what happens.

I did. It has been off now for 3 days...

Then the screen may be screwed. I highly doubt there is a software fix for this.

Replace the screen.
