Do I need to wear a headset while using my mic?

Just making sure. A friend kept telling me to get a headset while using my new mic, but I only have earbuds and earbuds annoy me so I want to use the mic alone while gaming.

If your audio is coming through normal speakers, it can be picked up by the microphone as well, causing some echoing to your listeners. Pretty annoying. I'd probably recommend getting a cheap headset with a boom mic.

Logitech USB Headset H390 with Noise Cancelling Mic - This is probably a newer version of what I use and it works very well for my needs.
