If i were to factory reset my computer, would everything be completely erased from it? would things like passwords and other sensitive information be recoverable?

Solution

"Factory Reset" as in the function that the manufacturer provides?
If yes, everything will be gone. Everything. It will be exactly as how it came from the store.

No user accounts, logins, passwords.....nada. All gone.
What OS is this?

So it would be like if you got it out of the box for first time use. However, data can be compromised if sent to the experts. You can use DBAN to do a Department of Defense (DOD) wipe, but it will take several hours to drive multiple times.

Oh and im considering doing this because i recently purchased a lonovo Y50. however in light of all the issues with lenovo pre loading crappy software into their computers, my trust in the manufacturer has eroded so to speak, so im thinking of returning it

All prebuilt PC or laptops come with a boatload of bloatware/crapware.
All of them.

Dell, Asus, HP, whoever.

2 solutions:
1. Delete all that junk
or
2. Buy your own OS and do a full wipe and clean install.

If you want to return it, then yes...do the Lenovo Factory reset back to 8.1, and send it back.
