Forty years ago, lots of folks used radio to talk others in they're cars and more likely lorries. I can't remember the name but someone else will.

In the US, that is CB radio. I still have 2 of them.

One in my truck now. Comes in handy when towing my camper (weather bands) or long-distance traveling to monitor road/traffic conditions.

I still have Murphy wireless (radio these days) which I bought in 1955 for what is now the equivalent of £1.50.

It had valves and a Magic Eye to allow the user to get the best sound. If you're looking for that kind of that era, look to your forces' base because they still use valves to this day - well, in Britain they do.
