I had my laptop repaired a couple years ago and the shop that did it closed down, and he reset my BIOS password now I cannot get into my laptop at all.

Your story is skeptical though. They closed down and then sent you your laptop locked? Kinda weird.

But yeh - they all have CMOS batteries. all of them, in order to keep time in addition to a number of other functions (like maintaining the CMOS settings)

I got the laptop back after they replaced my hard drive, the hard drive went out again went to have it replaced again, but the shop was closed so I ordered a hard drive and replaced myself but cannot get into BIOS because I don't have the password...nothing skeptical about that.
