Don’t buy that gaming headset — you can get more for your money

Just broke my old gaming headset last week and was trying to figure out how I could find the money to get another good one with a limited budget when this amazing article came out. Excellent points and good arguments to just go with a two piece dedicated hardware setup going forward, this is definitely far more bang for my buck.

Hard to read an article seriously when someone chooses to use Bluetooth on Windows and is surprised it sounds bad. There is no headset in the world that will sound good like that.

Complain about price and then suggest headphones and mics that would cost as much or more.

You specifically talk about the Turtle Beach Atlas Air, and hopefully some readers will ignore you and listen to microphone tests online that show it's more than enough for almost everybody.

I guess it's hard to constantly make new content online, but it's sad to see consistently bad content.

It's actually not a joke. Gaming headsets are simply just a bad product in most cases, and you are generally paying for the marketing. Right now, the two best headsets are the audeze maxwell and the sennheiser pc38x. Both of those are basically studio headphones with a mic, with the maxwell having the addition of being wireless. Sennheiser studio headphones are great because they have a good balance of amazing soundstage and colorful sound. AKGs have better soundstage for the price, but don't sound as good for gaming. Studio headphones, as they aren't really marketing themselves on anything but the sound, focus entirely on making it as best as possible. Along with this, as the only components in them are a driver and copper wires, they can last decades. The problem with this article is that it is only showing expensive studio headphones as options, even though there are much less expensive options. Also, a $30 amazon usb mic works fine and you don't need to buy the more expensive ones that are recommended. The other issue is recommending bluetooth headphones for gaming.
