"Whatever your feelings on EA, it’s undeniable that the company knows how to turn revenue. "

Hahahaha, really now? That's why DA2 sold far less then DA:O? That's why less then a year from launch SW:TOR is bleeding subs fast and is already thinking of going F2P?

[citation][nom]Tomfreak[/nom]So EA, u removed recording company, shipping company and retailer's profit and claim the extra income for urself? I hope u stop selling games @ $60 after going fully digital. Get it down to $20.[/citation]

Uh, EA doesn't deal with recording companies for obvious reasons.

Ofc EA plans to concentrate on digital sales, they are cutting expanses everywhere and this isn't a big surprise. If they could ship BF3 with 5 hour long single player campaign, cut on multiplayer content to later sell it as DLC, create seven pay2win games, this is nothing, non issue. I'm just worried where publishers will find source of increasing profit margins when they stop growing at desirable rate, maybe commercials interrupting game play?

[citation][nom]anony39023[/nom]My concern with all digital like steam and origin is what happens when those companies disappear? And I'm sure it'll happen one day. If all of your games are on steam what happens when valve or steam go bye bye? It's pretty crazy that every game you own will suddenly become unplayable. At least with physical media you can always have it around. I can play games from way back in the early 90s, heck I can even still play games from companies that have long disappeared and as long as our computers will be binary based I'll still be able to play those games..[/citation]

it is obvious with steam. when that happenned, steam promised to provide a patch to release the drm free. so we can still have all the games we own bought from steam. i dont know with origin.

one buying stuff on steam is the laziest thing you can do as a PC gamer. Waiting for them to mail you sales of ones and zeros locked to your account and to the survival of their business and whoever they are contracted with to stay on good terms for as long as you ever want to play that game even going back years later for nostalgia that many of you under 25 may not be able to understand yet is not only a fools bet that actually leaves you with nothing to share with your children or makes you a sucker to keep buying the same thing over and over and over again. like a girl who loses a phone or can't pay her phone bill every couple of months and having to read by her favorite music on her phone. And don't give me any of that capitalism hoarding or Zen Buddhism BS you're still buying and paying for something or I should say nothing that you have less control over but then again if he said home playing games all day not only are you probably are a sheep but a mama's boy. and as for capitalism not being your cup of tea you're feeding more into it by just paying steam and cutting out the delivery people the cashiers the stock boys the sales representatives that don't have any jobs anymore and don't think that the people that make the games actually get paid after the game is completed with these big companies so instead of paying a chain of people who all get a cut of the price you pay for the game you're actually only paying the company that produces the game and whoever you get it from digitally and if you really want to squeeze an argument out of it you could say the people investing on your Internet service provider are making little bit of money to but one way or another buying games digitally destroys lower to middle income jobs the jobs that you probably work at or your parents were And the only people making money out of it other people that are already rich.

and two I can get the games much cheaper than steam prices on Amazon or eBay then on steam any time and I know that I'm paying the people that produce the discs produced artwork produced the cases by the product hold the product sell the product through Amazon or eBay and Amazon and eBay may get a small cut to an even if the game requires a steam hook up to be on the Internet I know if I really wanted to and if a hurricane or tornado knocked out my Internet service will or any of the parties involved in DRM security on the game decided not to support the game anymore I could always have it cracked and I wouldn't be some Schmuck who didn't pay anybody at all and downloaded the game and the crack together.

People ask were all the jobs are going why can I get a job or a better job wired mom and dad getting a raise and a new car and a better house or buying me a car but are willing to take the easy lazy way out and not support the jobs that they themselves rely on worse than she you stab your own selves in the back and every lower and middle class worker who dreams of better jobs and work and lives for themselves

Nope I think you covered all of the bases =D

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]When iTunes came out people flocked to it to buy music instead of CDs and they pump out millions of songs....Where is the negative feedback about no longer being able to sell your old CDs?[/citation]

Music CD = 700mb and worth around $12 give or take
Video Game = Around 8gb and worth $59.99 when new.

Get the point?

Well to me as long as video games bring a tidy profit these two companies will still exist. But on the rare instance where either goes bankrupt all they'll have to do is make the already owned games DRM free. Besides most games you download through Origin and Steam can be played without having to be online, just browse for the game's .exe on the installation folder and it will launch.

The laziest thing would be to pirate a game and not pay for it at all! Which is what usually happens when people can't buy games for reasonable prices. I could sit and write stuff that would contradict about 3/4 of your post but I have no desire to start a flame war.

Also, Amazon and Ebay in the rare occasions do sell games cheaper than Steam but not when Steam has the crazy bargains going which is usually every month and holiday. For instance, I bought Warhammer 40k Space Marine and Dawn of War II Retribution on Steam for $7.50 each! Find me those kind of prices on Amazon or ebay, you can probably find a used copy of the game but when you take for account shipping prices you can't beat Steam.

They killed Westwood.

Never forgive.

digital downloads are ok. if and only if it goes smoothly. i don't mind DRM as long as it's not intrusive. i don't like it when i have to log in to three different services before i get to the main menu.
though for collector's editions i want a physical copy.
