Owned by Gateway now (for a while now) for whatever that's worth. I
have heard generally positive things about their desktop machines from
friends who use them.

Their best are quite good if you can find them. Sold as "Gateway" now and
most of the models that used to be "emachines" are available only in
stores, not on the Web site.

I've a M5312 Athlon based eMachine I bought a year and a half ago at
Best Buy. Had a slight cooling fan noise problem early on but
eMachine sent me a prepaid shipping box and I had my machine back
within a few days. No problems since. The only thing I don't like is
the keyboard (on the flimsy feeling side) and the arrangement of some
of the keys (big mistake to put the delete abd home keys next to each
other).
Other than that I love the computer, its capabilities, and durability.

I have owned one of their laptops for about a year. Their service has
been outstanding.

Whenever I had a problem, they answered the phone in less than 20
seconds. Recently, the hinges cracked. I brought the laptop back to
Best Buy. The staff there told me they wouldn't fix because it seemed
liked I dropped the machine. Anyway, they sent it out after I became
argumentative & EMachines repaired everything.
