I have a HP eletebook 8470p. Ive upgraded the cpu to an i7 3740hk. I was wondering if I could use an external riser card to add a gpu to my pc so I can run some higher end games.

If you have a mini PCI slot to add the external video adapter to, probably can. You realize you will need the video card adapter, the video card, a power supply and a monitor to run it that way right? Along with the fact that those external video card connections run at 1x PCIe speeds which will bottleneck even a lower spec gaming card like a 1050 or GTX 560.
