[citation][nom]pawessum16[/nom]It cracks me up to come on here and see all the people that clearly don't understand the usefulness of facebook and bash it. LOL[/citation]

I completely Agree with you.

[citation][nom]dogman_1234[/nom]Facebook will be canned. It will take either alot of stuidity, loss of scratch on Marks part, or the complete and utter reality that comes to people realizing that there is more to life than a binary profile over the International Network.[/citation]

[citation][nom]freggo[/nom]Facebook, nothing but a huge time waster!Whereever you go people are frantically updating their page or writing on someone's wall or whatever; as if anyone would actually care. Go out into the sunshine and actually 'meet' people. Try to socialize in the real worlk instead of on a dumb computer screen. Facebook is to socializing interaction what masturbation is to love.. 🙂[/citation]

My 2 cents worth. or worthless 😛

Social Networking != Anti-Social Behavior.
Social Networking is part of normal participation in society. Today, people want to share much more information with eachother. Sometimes too much. But, you should be aware that many enjoy sharing their experiences at a different level than before. I.E. where they went, the photos they took, and the people they met. Nothing different than a telephone conversation. Just now we are able to share visual artifacts, and more people can discuss it at the same time(it also becomes a topic when you meet face-2-face as well). Skype comes to mind, you can see each others expressions when talking. (Not the same as 1-on-1 but it is a step closer for those who have to live far away, etc.).

Personal Information Security
Of course there is the normal security problems with your personal information, and you want to protect yourself of course, and there have been many steps in that regards, including the fact that you can change your profile to be seen differently by different people. Some information you share with family. Other information with friend(s) only. It is a lot of work at this moment, but later it should become much simpler as technology improves.

Online Social Networking Addiction
Yes, there are some(well many) who have become addicted to social networking sites. As you said, they tend to update their sites as often as possible, etc. And there is a large number of these people. But with all new things, there is always an over zealous to use them. Many of us are really excited to use our new iPhones, or play the latest game(SC2, Black Ops, whatever floats your boat) but these are purely due to the nature of "New Toys", just like little kids do. Also, not everyone is able to communicate at the same level(life would be boring). Some find it easier to communicate online, due to the relaxed communication flow. (not face 2 face). But, in our society, teenagers normally want to find attention. And this is just another way for them to do that.

It is also your choice not to participate in Social Networking, just as one can turn off their phone if they don't want to answer it. But, don't make anti-social behavior an excuse for not using the technology. Well, not unless you want to fly me over to your house each time you have a comment about an article you have read.... online...?!?!?!

I'm not pointing any fingers(well, I am sorta 😛), but I have instead used you two as Examples only to point out, that Facebook or any other Social Networking site, is really for convenience. And many people find it important(Both locally and abroad.) And for me to spread my bias onto mankind. 😀

Facebook is WAY overhyped. As others have stated, there is a lot more to life than wasting time and posting stupid status updates on your page trying to believe that your life is SO important that others really need an up-to-the-minute update on what you are doing. Sure, it's cool to stay loosely connected with people who you haven't seen in a long time. But in all reality, Facebook is a huge time waster more than anything else.

[citation][nom]Igot1forya[/nom]...just closed my facebook account yesterday, thank you.[/citation]

...*cries in corner*

Facebook can be a great tool to stay in touch with friends and family, find out what's going on in your city. Not to mention help friends when they're upset and you can't be there in person. Sadly people are too selfish to see the good side of it and only see the crap like Farmville and immediately call Facebook crap. Its probably true people spend too much time on it, but people watch too much porn too, why not go out and meet a woman, or heaven forbid talk to your wife.
