A family member is asking me what kind of laptop they should get. They don't like app and want an apple replacement. What are some good brands or laptops?

Solution
Apple laptops are heavily overpriced for the terrible performance they offer, a bit of a joke in the PC community! :p
You can get a Macbook with these specs for $1300.
DUAL CORE, which is absolutely terrible for anything other than basic use.
512GB PCIe-based onboard flash storage1
1.2GHz dual-core
Intel Core m5 processor
8GB memory
Intel HD Graphics 515

For nearly half the price you can get a quad core i7 mobile CPU clocked at 2.7GHz, Nvidia 960M graphics and a 1TB Hard Drive. More than double the performance.

Here is a comparison on the graphics chips: http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-960M-vs-Intel-HD-515-Mobile-Skylake/m27242vsm38173
