starfleet healthcare isnt that bad. remember geordi is a boomer. born offworld in space his physiology is hyper sensitive to nerve operations. they'd have to completely reconstruct up to brain not a good idea.plus he reads alot. fatigue

The funny thing about that is that the patients of over 75 will live for another couple of years anyway and this operation will drain their pockets before that.

Anyway! The good thing is that the elderly rich people will be the Guinea pigs to test the technology that our internet-porn-watching-and-console-game-playing generation will need so much so very soon. 😀

[citation][nom]Gin Fushicho[/nom]This is nice, I have a grandfather who could use that, but I'm sure he'd rather wait till they have something nicer.[/citation]

The problem with waiting is you could be dead by then.

[citation][nom]ravewulf[/nom]That's gotta be rather disorienting with one eye at normal 1x zoom and the other at 2.2-2.7 zoom.It would be nice to get to the point of advancement shown in Ghost in the Shell though.[/citation]
You may be surprised at how our brains can adapt to things like this. A friend had some "bifocal" contacts that corrected one eye for close up and the other for distance. I imagine the biggest problem there was depth perception, but his brain automatically selected the best eye for the clearest vision.

[citation][nom]sliem[/nom]Wow. Does it take picture and wireless send the image to the receiver? How about x-ray maybe in the future? Cool. Will this cure blindness? How much is the transplant?[/citation]
No, I think if they make x-ray vision it will only aid in your blindness. 😀

[citation][nom]shin0bi272[/nom]Spoken like a true health care rationing socialist.[/citation]

Not that i agree with the guy, but he wasn't speaking like a socialist, by definition he was speaking like a capitalist.

Ha , by the time I reach 75 in forty odd years time, i should be able to have any body part I want, as long as the brain is good, ill live to 150 at least!

And yes, if i could afford it, why not. 75% chance of improvement is also 100% greater than not doing anything at all!

Dont knock the rich as well, they pay more taxes than the poor by default because they have more, generally they employ people as well keeping families fed, use less of the tax system as they have no need for benefits, keep technology progressing as they can afford to be early adopters.

Its mostly jealousy that causes rich bashing.

And just because your body is old, doesn't mean that you shouldn't try improve your quality of life if you can!

Speaking to many old people, they don't think old in their heads, we all stay young in our minds if we want!
Its just jelousy when people have a go at the rich!

How do you imagine that? I'm sure this isn't covered by medicaid so you either need to pay for it yourself or pay for it using privately purchased insurance coverage. That sounds like capitalism to me.

As for draining the pockets of the elderly... they can't take it with them.
