The rights and freedoms that our fellow soldiers are fighting for are exactly the kinds of rights and freedoms we are giving away in order to feel safer. My wife served in the Navy (on the Reagan) and she's mad as hell at the crap that we're giving up because that's the stuff she sacrificed a heck of a lot of her own personal freedoms for during her time of service to protect. Especially since things like this do almost nothing to save American lives due to how many people have died to terrorism in the last 20 years compared to other preventable causes. If you really were serious about saving American lives I'd recommend focusing on dangerous driving habits such as drinking, speeding, running reds and cellphone usage.

Of course, I'm willing to bet that you're one of those people who are first to cry about 'privacy invasion' and 'unconstitutional' when the gov't puts up speeding/red light cameras or use publicly available photos to find pools that weren't permitted. Of course, nudie x-rays are ok, because it protects us from those dangerous non-white, non-protestant people.

Personaly I don't think this represents a loss of privacy or rights, some are saying it isn't effective, well if it saves one life it is more than effective, it depends on how important a value you place on human life in relation to these other less important matters. Personally I'd be quite happy for everyone to be placed on a DNA data base, have their finger prints take and facial features scanned, just how would that affect you in your day to day life...it wouldn't....yet I'm sure many here would raise hell about it.

As I view it, we're losing the war because we're gradually giving up our rights, freedoms and way of life that are so despised by the very groups we're trying to defeat, all in the name of security and safety. I'm sorry, but freedom isn't free, but neither is it safe. Freedom by its very nature is more dangerous than a strictly controlled and monitored nanny state (like the UAE or Saudi Arabia). We have large amounts of gun violence in this country, but I never want to see guns taken away, I'm accepting of the fact that guns are dangerous but I never want my right and freedom to have them taken away. I accept the responsibility of having a dangerous weapon and the duties required to handle it safely and I also accept the risk that someone else with a gun may not handle it properly, that's the price I'm willing to pay in order to be free.

To those asking for a reason WHY these machines SHOULD be capable of storing scanned images (though not necessarily always storing all of them)... for PROOF! If they DO see something in the scan that makes them feel a strip search or whatever is necessary, they have something more to show in court if they want to prove probable cause for a search, strip search, etc. Seems reasonable to me. It's just your body people relax. You realize your body is always there right? it's just covered by a bit of cloth. Don't be so prude.

Your argument assumes everyone has to do things that other people want them to. In my opinion the person you hear about in the news telling you why you need to have scanners and more security and blah blah blah, are the real terrorists. Scaring you into agreeing.
