Why are you giving this 'person' your time etc, when you could be answering
our posts.
All you do is bring him into the spotlight when you want him in the dark.
He is feeding on your animosity and probabling 'getting off' on it.
Everytime he shows himself, just do a warning post and leave it. I saw one
and would not touch him with a very long bargepole. I am sure there are
plenty of novices like myself who will heed the warnings.
Half the time we are too scared to switch on our computers let alone open a
web site.
If he feels you are libellous, then let him take his mouth to court.
But for goodness sake dont give him more of your time. Forget him,
ignore him and he might 'foxtrot oscar' himself.
You may well be angry - remember - Anger is a short madness!
Rock - shame on you - its 'equivatory' you were thinking of Im sure.
I would like to see the ones blanked by the censors.
If they did their jobs properly on this newsgroup they blank the bloody
racists that spout their filth.

I agree with the second half of that advice. :)

Trolls thrive on attention, and a warning post constitutes attention.
It's hard to know when someone is a troll (as opposed to clueless but
teachable), but it's pretty obvious what pcbutts is.

As Robert Heinlein said, "Never try to teach a pig to sing. You'll
just waste your time and annoy the pig."

hmmm.. wasn't thinking of that word. Never heard of it actually -
doesn't show up online. I'll need to check the Oxford Unabridged next

Actually, there have been a number of posts of his that didn't need
addressed - when he doesn't post information or links to unknown files I
don't have any issues. It's got nothing to do with him at all, I would
do the same for anyone that posted non-vendor links to vendor files.

> I saw one and would not touch him with a very long bargepole.

Other than his violating most security standards/practices by
encouraging people to download unverified files from an unknown source,
I don't actually have any problems with him. He's not that bad a chap if
he could just understand security ideals.

Oh, one other thing - I'm not angry, in fact, I'm quite happy to try and
help him understand the difference between offering vendors files from a
personal (read that as unknown) web site and those offered via links
from a personal site - which is how professionals approach offering
files and which allows the downloader to authenticate that he's really
getting what he thinks he getting.

Meaning no disrespect, I think you're handicapped by thinking
logically. :)

IMHO he _knows_ the difference, but doesn't _care_. Attempts to teach
someone who doesn't want to learn are a waste of time.

Yea, I have three teens (got started late) and see that every once in a
while. I see it a lot more in kids that don't have proper parental
interaction, where the parents don't take an active part in their kids
lives.

Still, like the clients we have that still thing the ebay warnings are
really from ebay, or the email from Nigeria may actually be real and a
good way to get some quick money, I fee sorry for him and just hope no-
one actually falls for his unauthenticated/unknown files.

I know the difference and you are right I don't care. I get paid way too
much to have to hand feed newbie's (no offence to the newbie's) in trouble
shooting issues, after all they come here for help not to be told to go
somewhere else. I make it easy for them and easy for me. You guys can't seem
to understand that. Most of you don't know the meaning of help or what it
means for someone who needs help to have to ask for it.

A simple single page on your website with the direct vendor links would
be quicker and require less effort - so, there has to be that "getting
paid for traffic directed to your site" anterior motivation you
mentioned.

We understand completely, you're asking people to violate security
standards and download files from an unknown source, and you say you
don't care about it - which means you don't really care about security.

Hello everyone,

My name is Cedrick Collomb I am the author of Unlocker, do not hesitate to
contact me at ccollomb DeleteThis @yahoo.com if you have any question.

My official webpage is http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

And for obvious security reasons I recommend you to download my software
from my webpage only or from official listed websites listed at the bottom
of the page.

PCButts1: You sent me emails asking for the permission to use unlocker on
your website, and in your emails you said that your website was to help
users dealing with spyware and computer problems. I can not find such a page
on your website, moreover you directly link my software on your server
whereas you should have directly linked my software on my webpage with
http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/unlocker1.7.1.exe for example.

I have not given you any explicit authorisation, in my answer to you I have
told you that I would prefer you to link on my webpage, but since I am not
naive and could not enforce it, I tolerated it on your website given that
your intents and the description you gave me were accurate. Obviously they
were not.

Thus I do not allow you anymore to distribute any version of my software
Unlocker on your website.

Thank you for your understanding.

Cedrick Collomb

Cedrick, it's good to see you confirm what many of us have thought about
pcbutts1. Most of us understand security and always provide a direct
link to the vendors site, not only so that the user can get a validated
copy of the file, but so that the vendor can provide information about
the product and even show donation/sales information for the product.

Thanks for posting and letting the world know that you didn't give butts
permission.
