Finally got my AXP 2400+ and some questions

Bought it yesterday to replace my Duron 1 GHz.

I've bought a retail package. OPN code: AXDA2400DKV3C. Runs at 1.65v. Under OPN code there was written "KIXJB 04 16FPDM". Does it mean my CPU's stepping is <b>KIXJB</b>?

The bad thing is my CPU's multiplier is not unlocked. It's always 15, regardless I set it higher or lower in BIOS. Is there a physical-mod free way to unlock multiplier? What the option "CPU Interface" in my ABIT NF7 mobo does? Does it unlock multiplier?

I'm testing undervolting at this moment. It can't run stable at 1.5v. It's now running prime95 without errors for 7+ hours at 1.55v

Your AXP is probably running at 15x133. Most AXP can run with a FSB of 166MHz.

I recommend you trying 15x140, 15x145... Etc... If you have no-name DDR333 RAM, you can run in SYNC (FSB = Memory interface speed) up to 166MHz. If you only have DDR266, you might need to "force" your RAM at 133MHz and mess with your FSB up to whatever you want! Your system will be async.

If you have decent cooling, keep your CPU temp. under 55-60 at full load. Ideally, around 50, but you don't have to worry if your CPU run at 60 Celsius in full load. AXP can be tortured a lot before dying!

I thought all T-Bred B are unlocked?
I've bought 2600+ and 2700+, both are unlocked on nForce2

From my experience, the CPU Interface allows cpu to run at faster FSB, I've tried to disable it, then my cpu can only run at 100FSB..I don't know if it's true for you, but in any case, I'm pretty sure that Enable it is a <b>better</b> option. :lol: But I don't think that enable that will you to change multiplier..however it costs nth to try

wow? you can run it at 1.55v? I'm running my cpu at 166x11=1833MHz at 1.575v..if I set lower, super_pi won't pass by the last loop. :frown:

i can get my axp2400 running at max 190FSB(190x11.5) or max 2200 mghz.

the ideal setting for you(with locked multiplier) would be 146x15 i think(thats 2190mghz)...i havn't really heard of anyone getting past 2200 mghz on air cooling with one of these.

my setting is 157x14...but i have an unlocked multiplier. lucky me . only 157 because to get past 160 i have to do a little dance with the jumpers and it gets annoying.

EDIT: i forgot to add that at 2200mghz i have to put 1.85 volts to the core, the most my motherboard allows(Aopen AK77-600n). and at those settings it runs at exactly 60 degrees when ambient temp is 22 degrees.

I think the stepping is just called JB.
I'm glad you got a faster chip. Quite the upgrade. I hope you enjoy it. I'm sure you will get it running great.

I'm using Kingston PC2700 CL2.5. So no need of overclocking the memory.

I've tried some overclocking. It can run at 2100 MHz (140 x 15) at default voltage. At 143 x 15, default voltage, it generates error at prime95 (doesn't crash or lock up). In all cases the memory was running at 2.0-2-2-5.

I'm using the stock HSF. At 2100 MHz, 1.65v it's 56C (room temp. 30C).

Today I'll try some overvolting. Is it possible to get 2200 MHz within 1.75v (1.7v prefferable)?

I've heard all T-bred "B"s are unlocked when using with nForce2 mobo. My CPU is definately T-bred, not Thorton. Did anybody else get locked T-bred "B" before?

I had always CPU interface disabled. It didn't cause any problem with FSB.

I will try enabling though. Does anybody exactly know what it really does?

Today I'll try some overvolting. Is it possible to get 2200 MHz within 1.75v (1.7v prefferable)?

My T-bred B 1700+ only needs ~1.58V for 2.26Ghz (205x11), but since I've recently discovered that I only need 1.45V for 2Ghz, I think I might just have a pretty special chip

KIXJB is the batch code. It's not quite the same as a stepping. There are always internal CPU changes between steppings but not necessarily between batches. Though, some batches are better than others due to better yields.

I haven't closely followed Athlon information for a long time. You could have a Thorton core.

I haven't seen any overclocking results with Thorton so I'm curious if 1) you have one and 2) how well it does.

I don't think it's Thorton. CPU-Z tells that it's Family 8, Stepping 1. It should be T-bred.

IIRC, Thorton is falmily 10, just like Barton.

Right now I'm running it stable at 2.18 GHz (145 x 15) @ 1.725v(selected in bios). My CPU is "auto-undervolted", it's actually running at 1.68 to 1.71v. I think I can hit 2.2 GHz with 1.75v (bios selection).

My mobo didn't undervolt my Duron 1 GHz. With Duron it always supplied exactly the same voltage I selected in bios (according to bios and winbond hardware doctor). But with AXP 2400+, it's always little undervolted. My CPU at stock speed runs 0.2v lower than selected voltage (tried with default 1.65v to 1.5v). And when overclocked to 2.1=>GHz with 1.7=>v, it supplies 0.2v to 0.4v less. Is this problem caused by inadequate PSU?? I'm using a 300W generic PSU with the described CPU, ABIT NF7 v2.0 (onboard audio/lan disabled), 1 passive cooled 64 MB Radeon 9000 non-Pro, 2 x 256 MB PC2700 DDR (sync with FSB), 2 HDD, 2 optical drives, 1 SB Live Value! sound card, 1 generic V92 winmodem and 2 case fans.

I don't know if mine is undervolting...but I've mentioned it at the other post, for any voltage I set, say if I set it to 1.65V in BIOS, when I'm back to Windows, any softwares would show the voltages as 0.05V less, which is 1.60V in this case
so this makes me wonder for a while what is the real voltage that is supplied
Most of time it stays at 1.60V (1.65V Bios selection), However, it does fluctuate sometimes, it could go to 1.62V and 1.57V (MBM5 recorded, with 1.65V Bios selection)

btw, I can hit 2.2GHz with 1.65V..again, Bios selection as you speak. 1.60V as Windows shows. But I've not really test it..just ran super_pi 1Mb..since I have no DDR400, it runs slower than stock speed :tongue:

How about try to underclock ur cpu with lower voltage in this case? I mean to see if it will draw less power, thus will not "auto-undervolted" ?

Right now, I'm running at 2.18 GHz (145 x 15) @ 1.75v. At 1.725v it didn't crash in any programs, but I got infinate loop in prime95. Now with 1.75v, it's completely stable in prime95.

My RAM can't handle 2.0-2-2-5 at 145 MHz FSB. I had to use 2.0-3-3-6

I've tried 1500 MHz @ 1.5v. But it still undervolts the CPU by 0.2v (according to BIOS and Winbond Hardware Doctor). Other programs (e.g. Sandra, CPU-Z) shows 0.5v less. I don't know why it's happening. With Duron, I've never had this experience (BTW, except BIOS and Winbond Hardware Doctor, all other programs always showed ~0.25v less than BIOS reported voltage).
