I currently have my firestick connected to my xbox one, which is connected to my older receiver via hdmi for video and optical audio. Then hdmi output from the receiver to the projector. It works ok but there is a slight sound delay. Speakers are connected directly to the receiver by the way.

Question is, what feature on a newer receiver would allow me to plug the firestick directly into it and have sound come through the speakers? Would a receiver with ARC solve this? Just looking to eliminate that audio delay.

Solution
Any receiver with HDMI inputs should allow you to connect the Firestick directly to it. If you don't have enough HDMI inputs then an external HDMI input selector will allow you to expand the number of inputs to as many as you want.
ARC does absolutely nothing for you.
