Free antivirus for an old system

I need some light demand and freeware antivirus for a Pentium 4 computer, the poor thing only has 512MB ram and it runs Windows XP.

I tried my old authentic Norton and Kaspersky ones, but they pretty much said shell out money on new versions. Bitdefender seemed promising, but it gave me a warning message saying it demands AT LEAST 1GB of memory or else it won't run...

Any idea is appreciated.

Go for AVG antivirus. It runs well even on potato PCs. And it's free.

Would that be the least demanding one out there?
It still kind of loads too much on the system.

This was the first thing I tried. if you read carefully I mentioned that Bitdefender will not work unless there is at least 1gb ram installed.

try panda,works well on old systems Ive used it on in the past
