Sunlight is not the source of Vitamin D. Sunlight photoisomerizes provitamin D to vitamin D3 in the skin. Vitamin D3 is then transported to tissues for further metabolism.

just to add:
Since children's body is still developing, it's no wonder that the vitamin D deficiency causes a much more serious problem.

But not being taught to balance between their activities is the root, not gaming. This can cause serious behavioral problems later in life.

If you don't get sun light the multivitamin won't do you any good. So solution... The next expansion of WOW includes a USB powered sun lamp.

[citation][nom]eatrightortakeapill[/nom]Milk and juice are already supplemented with vitamin D and calcium in the US. Last I checked dietitians are recommending everyone take a daily multivitamin as well. Alternatively you can simply make sure your diet includes plenty of spinach and fish. Then again, you have to be careful of mercury in fish.I remember looking forward to a Flintstones chewable every day as a kid, and I take an 'adult' multivitamin daily. Staying out in the sun for longer than a few minutes is a bad idea for me because my fair skin will burn quickly, and wearing sunblock defeats the purpose.[/citation]

Vitamins are not the cure all for ailments. They won't help at all unless they are used as a supplement to a good diet, a regular exercise program and regular sleep. Too many people think all they need to do is pop a pill and that they will "magically" become healthier.

Exactly. I would blame pollution, climate change and high rise buildings that block the sun.

I've been thinking about the subject of sunlight lately and what a lot of people don't realize is that when it is cloudy out, if you are in full "light" all day outside (that is, not indoors and just outside) you can still get a sunburn. So it still doesn't hurt to get outside once in a while if you are stuck indoors at a job or school all day.. or heaven forbid the plague "WoW".

[citation][nom]JonathanDeane[/nom]Video games turned me into a newt!!![/citation]...
...
...well I got better.

Seriously though, they blame obesity on video games, meanwhile a lot of kids only have P.E. once a week and they're cutting down on recess time too. Not to mention in HS in some places you can opt out of P.E. But no, its video games.

I have a HUGE window in my room that faces east, I may be in the basement but if I open my blinds all I get is sheer bright sunlight in the morning as long as there are no clouds , and seeing as I sit right next to the goddamn window in the morning when I check my mail , I think I'll be okay.

It's the overall lifestyle that is causing rickets. Video games are only a portion of that overall lifestyle.

Lack of sunlight, poor diet, no physical activity. Sleep deprivation probably exasperates it as well.

I'm surprised someone has not released a vitamin supplement for gamers, hell just add caffeine to all most any multivitamin out there and people would buy it in gobs.

are you a gamer? there's a pill for that!

[citation][nom]m man[/nom]Video games are blamed for everything. What will they be blamed for next? Polution?[/citation]
[citation][nom]chess[/nom]next week's headline, "Video Games Responsible for Global Warming!"[/citation]
