I currently have a desktop that I use as my primary gaming rig. It is a huge pain, though, to travel with it or take it to a friend's house. I would like to purchase a gaming laptop just for traveling purposes/LANs. It doesn't have to be top-of-the-line, maxing out games at crazy resolutions. I have my desktop for that. As long as this can run games at even medium settings I'll be happy.

I would prefer it to be on the thinner side. I know battery life is probably non-existent on gaming laptops, but the more battery life the better. I play a lot of AAA games, but would probably use this laptop for LoL more than any other game.

Any tips/advice welcome.

Edit: Currently looking at this Lenovo Y510p from Amazon.

no you won't run into stuttering issues.
the best ideapad yp510p is 1040$ but it is no better than the 900$ one so go with the 900$ one.

I was considering the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p 15.6-Inch Laptop (59406634) Dusk Black. $900 on Amazon, amazing specs. Battery life kinda sucks, but since I'm mostly going to be using this for away gaming, it'll be plugged in. Unless someone knows something about this laptop that makes it a dealbreaker, or knows of another laptop with similar specs but lower price/better quality, I think this will be it.

the lenovo one is pretty good as it has 2 gt 750m SLI but you won't be needing so much juice if you are mostly going to play LOL.
the acer aspire has a 120 gb SSD which is more important.

LoL is what I would probably play most on the laptop, but I will occasionally play CO-OP games with friends (like the upcoming Dying Light, or occasionally we play BF4). I think the extra GPU power would come in handy on the occasion we do play something more intensive. I just really hate lugging my desktop around.

Also, though I have my doubts, I feel like if I ever brought my 1440p monitor with me, the sli 755m would be more likely to drive it (but prob not for any intensive games).

Thanks for all the help!

I'm reading reviews that are saying due to microstutter issues, a single 770m will run smoother on most games compared to the 755sli. I'm not sure if dealing with the headache of a sli is worth it.

That being said, I'm not sure if the 760m in that Acer is the best bang for the buck. Lots of laptops have better cards at the same price.

well i didn't know you are going to play games like bf4 and dying light then you should do with the ideapad y510p but be careful and go with the newer version not the older one.

Will I run into any stuttering issues (I'm not familiar with SLI much)? I will only use the laptop on occasional weekends where I LAN or travel. For those weekends I don't mind lowering the graphics to med-high if it means I can enjoy smooth performance. If a single card will provide smoother performance over an SLI set-up, I'll go that route. But if the issues on the y510p have been exaggerated, then I'd rather get that.

Wow, what a beastly cooling pad. I'll consider the options as I still have a couple weeks, but I'm pretty happy with the y510p. On xotic I was looking at the new 800 series and saw a couple 850m's that looked tempting under $1k, but with shipping/no OS it ends up being pricier and I don't think the performance increase (if there even is one) is worth the extra cost for a secondary gaming rig.

Thanks again for all the help everyone!
