Hello everyone I am looking into getting a new laptop, it will be used for college, movies/tv, and some gaming as well I decided on the MSI GT60 since it seems pretty powerful and with optimus can last some time off charger if need be for school. I am just unsure on which of these configurations to pick:
1. MSI GT60 2OC-022us
15.6" FHD 16:9 "Matte Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright LED Anti-Glare Screen w/ 95% NTSC Color Gamut (1920x1080)
16 gb memory (2x8gb)
Intel i7 4700mq
nvidia gtx 770m (3 gb)
bluray reader/dvd combo drive
128 gb samsung 840 pro ssd
1 tb 7200 rpm hdd
$2137.88

2. MSI GT60 2OD-261us
Has a very similar format only differences being
15.6" WQHD+ 3K (16:9) Glare-Type Glossy Screen (2880x1620)
nvidia gtx 780m (4 gb)
128 gb msata ssd
1 tb 7200 rpm hdd
$2299.87

My question is the 3k screen and 780m worth the $163 dollar extra versus the first option. Would the 3k screen be better for watching movies and tv than the regular screen but I wonder if i would be able to game well on such a high resolution as well.

Thanks in advance everyone!

If you care about things like watching movies and the total experience while gaming then yes the 3k screen is recommended.

If if you care about fps, then remember the gtx 770m @ 1080p will give much higher framerates than a gtx 780m @ 3k.

Yes, you are right. But whenever he thinks that he wants more FPS then he can reduce the game resolution anytime he wants. That's still a better option than gtx 770 with only 1080p res.
And the 2nd laptop is better bang for the buck.

Yeah, from a pure bang for the buck perspective, the gtx 780m with a 3k screen at just $163 more than a gtx 770m makes it a much better deal.
