None of the options are very good but the article does recommend going for $600 and has a link to that too.

GPUs in that range appear to handle Skyrim adequately but add in graphics mods and you could have problems.

You can get some pretty good gaming laptops for under $500 that can run a number of games well, the issue is that newer games like Battlefield 3 have pretty high spec requirements, so while it might be able to run the game, it won't run that well and soon the spec will be insufficient for future releases. The Lenovo G505s 59406417 a pretty good laptop for under $500 and it will run both Battlefield 3 and Skyrim, but it's not the most optimum as it just meets the spec requirements. I recommend you spend an extra $150 ish and get a Acer Aspire V5-552PG-X809, It'll run both games pretty smooth and it quite a beast.

There is no "gaming" laptop new for $500, or $600 really. Those that claim to be can play some games but on low settings or on low frame rates that may not be very playable. You should up your budget to about $700 or higher to get something you'll really be happy with, or look for a used system but test it first with a benchmark and a stress test before picking it up.

Cutting corners on laptops usually ends up with that laptop being put up for sale at a loss and then looking for a better laptop anyway. That is why there are all those Netbooks and Chromebooks and cheap tablets on craigslist.
