Hi guys,

I'm looking for a gaming laptop to play during my Co-op work term. Initially, I was going to get a desktop but since I will be moving around a lot, I decided to prioritize mobility over other things. As I was looking through some gaming laptops, the Lenovo Y50 and Y40 caught my eyes. And since these laptops are on sale right now, I believe it will be a good investment. However, being blind as a bat when it comes to computers, I would like to ask for your help on selecting a good laptop. Here are information on what I'm looking for:

Care about:
1. FPS of games
2. Laptop temperature (overheating issues etc.)
3. Price (my range is 500~1200)

Doesn't care about:
1. 1080P or 720P, I can play on both
2. Backlit keyboards etc.
3. Battery Life
4. Weight of laptop

Games that will be played:
SC2, CS:GO, BF4, Far Cry4, Arma 3 and other next gen games.

The questions I'd like to ask:

1. Will the Y50 with i5 (faster core speed) be sufficient for gaming over the i7 model, especially if I play on 720p? (I want to know if i7 is neccessary over the i5)

2. And if I'm okay with playing on 720p, will the Y40 be enough to run games on ultra/high at decent average fps?

I'm also very open to other suggestions.

Thanks a lot and happy holidays!

Solution
1. The I5 in a desktop wouldn't really be a problem compared to an I5, but it might in a laptop. Also, its the GPU that matters.
2. You might need a better GPU, perhaps an 850M or above.
3. Heres a suggestion: ASUS ROG GL551JM-DH71. It has an 860M and its probably the best laptop for your budget.
