Gateway looks to own $1500 laptop sector

Gateway has released their P7811FX laptop today with the intents of owning every other laptop in the $1500 sector.

As for specifications, you're looking at an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.26GHz, 3MB L2 cache with 1066MHz FSB), PM45 Express chipset, 17-inch WUXGA display at 1920 x 1200, Nvidia GeForce 9800M-GTS with 512MB GDDR3, 200GB 7200RPM spinner, 8x DVD burner, HDMI 1.2, eSATA, a 5-in-1 media card reader, 1.3MP camera, and a 9-cell Li-ion battery. The $1,499 machine weighs in at 9.2-lbs

Much like its predecessor, the P7811 looks at offering the best solution for those looking for a solid gaming system on a budget (relative ;) ) The new system has a faster CPU (2.26 compared to the slow 1.66ghz in the old one), a brighter 1920x1200 display and high-end 9800M graphics. If Gateway can get their support ratings up, I think they have a winner here.

A look at this makes me wonder if I should have waited for the new line of Gateways, instead of my P-172X FX. Lol.

@Maziar- Just noticed your new rig.(Havn't been on in a while. Lol) Looks sweet.

There is obviously something different based on the results. I know what you are saying and they do compare equally on paper, but the fact that the new P7811 beat the P-171 despite having a slower CPU and the "same" GPU, speaks of something else going on. Anandtech seemed to point the advantages to higher core and memory speeds, so maybe the 9800's are higher binned parts able of achieving higher speeds.
