Gateway solo 1450 doesn't see new battery

Purchase a new battery for my Gateway Solo 1450 but it doesn't recconize the new battery. It will run with the battery in place and no external source of power but won't charge it.

Sounds like INCORRECT battery , was it a very cheap copy ? If so RMA it...

I don't care what it LOOKS like...is it a GENUINE manufacturers battery or a cheap copy (less than £40/$50)
