Good cooling pad for Toshiba L875D-S7232

I have a few questions:

1) is cooling pad worth the money? Does it really help?
2) I purchased Toshiba L875D-S7232 (17 inch) laptop. Depending on the answer of the first question, I'd like to purchase a cooling pad for my laptop. I don't want to spend too much money, I'd go for a good mid range cooling pad. I don't care about pad's brand. I have the choice on these web sites:

does your laptop blow hot-air from the bottom, or from the side? Where is the cold air intake on your laptop?

If the air intake is on the bottom of your laptop you want one that blows air towards the bottom of the laptop.
If the air exhaust is on the bottom of the laptop you want one that blows air away from the bottom of the laptop.
