Question Good CPU but games running slow

Hi,
I've got an MSI GE60 2OE
CPU: i7-4700mq
GPU: Nvidia GTX 760M
When I first got the laptop, I could run games pretty well, even after turning the quality up a decent amount.
Recently, when trying to play games on the lowest possible quality settings, I'm getting about 15-20 FPS and I can see in the task manager that it's the CPU that's on 100% @ 2.49GHz when my GPU is only at about 40%.
When I run Nvidia geforce experience in game, it says on the counter that I'm getting about 50fps+ but that's just not right at all.
I've updated all my drivers, turned off windows search/superfetch, and I'm running on high performance power mode.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on and could maybe help me out?

Check cpu temp when gaming?

Turns out after checking again, it's not an i7-4700mq but an i5-4200m 🙁 even still though I wouldn't have thought it would struggle this much.
When gaming the CPU stays at around 70°C and when the computer is idle it stays at around 40°C.
