Google: Android Battery Should Last All Day

I have a droid and it seems that it's hit or miss. Certain apps seem to take more battery and it always reports the screen as being the culprit. When I use advanced task manager the phone seems to stay in good battery health for the day.

Not sure if it's just by chance but it seems that the Google Finance app (stock ticker) seems to eat battery... Maybe it's communicating in the background? And the MP3 store always loads... don't know what's causing that to load in the background when I'm not doing a thing!

Not sure how accurate it is but you can go into Settings then to About Phone (at the bottom) then tap Battery Use to see detailed graphs of what's using battery.
 
Hmm. Well, time to make a comment that will quite obviously get rated down to at least -40 ( 😛 )

But I don't have that problem with the only apple product I own.. My 3GS iPhone. I'm surprised if i HAVE to charge it more than once every 2 days.

Just saying.

I've got a Samsung Omnia II(Win Mo 6.5), and it has about 3 weeks of battery life with normal use(5-10calls/day, 2-3 games/day, and a webpage or two/day)

How much do you use it? My friend has a 3G and it can last just over 2 hours if used constantly with games and web browsing, or if used just for texting and generally being conservative it lasts 2-3 days.

I'm sure some people will use there phone a tonne and will have to recharge often, while others could probably go a half week before recharging.
 
You will if you had os4 on it as multitasking will eat it up; why else do you think apple upgraded the iPhone HD battery?. Apple puts them in a hibernates state, but it's up to app coders to implement any of the new features. My 3gs goes quick and I broke in the battery just like all phones before and it still goes and needs a a charge every night and I'm not a heavy user.
 
I have an HTC Eric and can go 1-2 days with occasional use. Few calls, few checks of email and other crap is about all I do.

Assuming a very modest of 1 hour of active usage a day based on your describe activities, you're telling me your phone lasts 21 hours of active usage plus (3 weeks-21 hours) of idle time?

Get the f**k out.
 
I have a T-Mobile G1, My battery will not last a full day no matter what. If it is a lazy sunday and I hardly ever pick it up it still won't last all day. If I'm working and make 15-20 calls I am constantly charging it. It's a great phone but I was not expecting the battery issue coming from my blackberry that would last at least a few days. I still would not go back to the BB over the battery issue.

Really? My 3GS was dead before my 12 hour shift at work was over and that was moderate use of skyscape and a few calls and txt messages here and there. Maybe just my bad luck of the draw?
 
My HTC hero normally lasts 2 days with wifi off for most of the time, with little web browsing and gaming, with wifi on and playing some old school NES games i might get away with a full day.
 
my htc hero also lives for 2 days, there is always a data-connection, i play a lot of games(40min a day), google talk is online 24/7. texting and calling frequency is average.
 
My Hero is 1 to 3 days normal use. I do use taskiller after most things I do. If I use it a lot though, 1 day is the top with wifi usage and browsing and such.
 
I have a feeling the type of people complaining are the ones that don't understand -just- how little power that battery has when it comes to keeping a live data connection over a cellular radio for hours on end, screen and apps aside.

Toss in a juicehog screen and over 9000 background apps, and no phone will last very long.

It's a shame newer high-capacity battery technology isn't coming along quicker. Given the complexity of current devices and the ever-increasing complexity of future devices (LTE/Wimax, anyone?), a 1500mAh battery will get you from the home to the office.... aaaand that's about it.
 
Since I had my first Android phone (G1) battery life was a recurring issue. Manufacturers advise to turn off GPS, WiFi, reduce background mail sync frequency etc.

So basically they want me to buy their fancy smartphone and turn off all functions that make it stand above 10-yrs old phones. Great.
 
if you download a good task manager program and kill ALL or most all of your apps you dont need my battery on my motodroid DOES last all day... barely, I'm at 10% before bed but it does.

One program I use which I love is called " Automatic Task Killer ". with automatic task killer you don't have to click and use the pesky task managers anymore, you simply select what apps to kill and every time your screen times out and goes black it automatically kills those apps for you.
