Of course they're both, 'leaving certain truths out.' These are large publicly traded corporations fighting over potentially millions of dollars in sales revenue. Both are crafting careful letters to the FCC through their teams of lawyers and both are going to provide lopsided arguments in their favor.
I do instinctively think Google's version is closer to the truth however. Apple controls their products through proprietary hardware, software, and term contracts whenever they can get away with it. I've been a Macintosh user since 1994 and nothing's changed since then other than how the stuff looks and the company's stock value.
Google on the other hand has a history of open source friendliness. I think they want to be the 'everybody' company and that means getting a foot in the door with Apple loyalists.
