To be fair to google on the obvious "people value there salary highly". It's a poorly worded article that leads to that impression, Google were making a comparison in forms of renumeration and found that salary was statistically preferable to stock or bonuses.

The whole culture of Google is designed to keep people at work. People that I've spoken with that have worked there generally get paid very well but often spend 60-80 hours at work. Most of them are young and single and don't mind this. They have places to relax around the Google campus, free laundry service, snacks and beverages, and other great perks that are all incentives to stay at work. They get paid well but generally are pretty productive. That's how capitalism works.

Sounds like a pretty interesting concept. Don't force them to work hard, but make the employee want to give it their best.
I wish my last boss took that approach.

If only I had a job at Google, if only ALL companies TRUELY cared about their employees like Google does, if only I had a job, period.

Sad how a large majority of businesses out thier are lining thier pockets instead of re-hiring the people they layed-off, or the ones that do hire only give minimal hours and no benifits so you can barley afford to just have a car to get to work, let alone buy groceries, pay rent, or cover other expenses.

Nice job Google, you are a model citizen of the business world. Congrats.

Working at Google has always sounded like fun and rewarding career. If this is true, hats off to Google management. Pretty gutsy thing to do in the current tech climate.

News reports that I have been reading today suggest the Googler that leaked the document was fired, No questions asked. I'm sure he or she won't ever make that mistake again.

...and they shot the messenger!

[citation][nom]rmmil978[/nom]Nice that some companies keep giving more. Mine keeps cutting back. Is this "recession" real or just a way for certain big companies to have an excuse to be even bigger tight asses?[/citation]

All of our benefits were cut last year and no raises given to 'anybody' ( I quoted that because I'm sure someone at the top got some kind of raise.) last year due to the recession. Then at Christmas they sent out an email saying we earned the most we had ever earned in a single year and as a reward we got to wear jeans to work for the rest of the year. No Joke. Seriously. You say "No way", I say "Way".

And have they restored any of our benefits since then?

How authentic is this article? I have doubt. "So that is why we’ve decided...to give all of you a 10% raise, effective January 1st." Why is year not mentioned after date? Memo comes with a year for validity. Just wondering.
