[citation][nom]jacobdrj[/nom]While I appreciate the ability to have an open system, Android is looking less and less appealing to me. Because of different system configurations, it appears that over time, not all of the android apps will not function the same on all android phones, much like computers... I am not sure that is something I want to deal with in a mobile phone. I think I am going to stick with my feature-phone for a long long time.[/citation]
I'm not sure it's just the variation that bothers me, more the lack of compatability. Sure Android is a Linux variant but that doesn't mean it can run Windows software the same way a desktop Linux distro can (WINE, etc) so if I buy a Froyo tablet why not install printer drivers, image software, MS Office - admittedly this article is about phones but seeing as the OS is both phone and tablet they are neglecting some very fundamental wants of tablet users who want to run some desktop programs but dont want Windows.
Give them what they want and you could kill Microsoft.
Dont and they will be forced to keep buying Windows.
In that respect they are making the same mistakes as Apple but dont have an expensive hardware lineup to pad out the bottom line.
