Hi all, I have an emachines e250 laptop, and recently whenever I've tried to turn it on, it boots for around 5 seconds then clicks off. I have identified the problem as being in the hard-drive, as I put another hard drive in the laptop and it worked fine and so have started using that.

I'm wondering what there is I can do to recover the contents of the old hard-drive, as it forces every laptop I plug it into to click off just the same.

I have considered buying an adaptor in order to try and use the hard-drive as a USB, but wondered if there was anything else I could do?

Many thanks and have a great evening!

If you only have that one laptop then you will have to use the USB to Sata adapter to try and get the data. With messed up dying hard drives sometimes I have better luck gaining access with a USB adaptor than a direct connection. If you have a desktop you could try putting the bad drive in as a secondary drive and copy the files to it's main hard drive then use the LAN-WIFI to copy them back on your laptop (or put the new laptop drive in the desktop as a secondary and copy files on it that way)
