hi guys, could you guys give me some info about my hard drive, the thing is that i have a sony vgn-A195EP and have 60 Gb hard drive total and C side sais 27.9Gb total and 263Mb free space, and D side sais 27.9Gb and free space27.9Gb, my question is about D drive that is still full and C drive is almost empty, now when the C has no more space free does the D drive takes over?, and why the D drive don,t have anything in it? Thanks in advance.

When your C: partition is full, you won't be able to store anything else on it, and you'll be forced to use the D: partition. The D partition doesn't have anything on it because you didn't put anything on it - you're the user of your computer; your computer doesn't make up its own filing system.

Thanks my good friend for you help ,
i don't know much about configuring the hard drive, can you pease guide me how i go about partition the D Drive, or better send stuff to the D drive, because it seems that every thing goes automatic strait to C drive, does the stuff goes to the D drive after the C is Full? thanks in advance.

Your hard disk is already partitioned - partitioning is the act of making multiple virtual drives out of a single logical drive.

All you have to do to put things on D is save them there, or copy and paste them there. You'll find the drive directory in your computer or my computer. Simply double click D to open it, then copy and paste, drag and drop, or save this that or whatever to it.

Programs will always default install on C and will default save in appropriate folders on your C drive - this is because most people don't have a second partition or a second hard disk. To change where programs install, simply change the install location during the programs setup wizard. To have the programs save someplace else, simply select the drop down box in the Save As form and click D:.

Your computer will not automatically do anything with D; your OS and all of its programs are designed to operate on a single disk (though that doesn't mean they can't operate on two disks).

Or, you can use the Vista DVD or gparted to extend your root partition to the entire drive. . . I'm not a big fan of multiple partitions on a single drive without a VERY good reason (you know, like an exf3 + swap).

Thanks yes my son's fw290 has Vista and only has C as a HD the one I'm using is a vgn-A195EP and as you said all i have to is send stuff where i want To C or D, this was my son's laptop and it was running stuffed in the C drive and had nothing in the D drive and he did not know so the laptop was complaining not running right, now everything is running smoothly,i took some stuff out of C and transferred to D now i have enough space free for myself, although the total hd drive is only 60Gig thanks one more for your help.
