Hard Drive Write Speed & USB Connection Type

Probably a very dumb question, but since a good SSD write/read at maybe 500Mbps, and good HDD runs about 150Mbps, doesn't getting USB3.1 (10Gbps), USB3.0(5Gbps), or even USB2.0(500Mbps) wouldn't make much difference?

the interface cannot exceed the inherent read/write capability of the drive...
