I want to build a laptop using something like a Clevo chassis, but I'm not sure where to go to find the motherboard/chassis/etc to build it. Wasn't sure to classify this under the homebuilt systems or laptops forum.

It sounds like a fun project to build my own laptop. And, it sounds cheaper to build a laptop and put my own software on it than buy one pre-built from Asus, Acer, etc.

Thanks for your help,
Nether

I have actually built the laptop i am using on my own.

Usually rjtech.com frostycomputers.com but mostly google will be good to put. Put the model you want and put barebone. Then just check on forums which site is reliable.

I have built my msi 1651 ID1 barebone was $400
T9600 processor - $180 oem
Hard drive -$50
4gb of ram - $40
Intel 5300 $20
all i needed and the barebone was display of 1650x1050 15.4inch widescreen
and of course windows 7 since it student i get for Free :)
if you need help just message me. but msi and i think a model of ocz are really the only ones that are barebone that you can buy off of. Havent tried cevo.

I actually just looked at RJtech.com and they had a clevo 15.6" with an i7 + a 280m for $1200.

But I understand your thing about the completed units, it's just that I think it'd be a really fun to build a laptop myself.

I'd just like to be able to make a laptop to my exact specifications.

The reason I was looking at clevo was for their HD LED 15.6" screens with the 1920x1080 viewing area.

And I'd like to be able to game on the laptop, so i'm trying to make a gaming laptop, myself.

It's not exactly easy.
