HDMI to USB

This might be a duplicate, but I have a Canon camcorder with only a HDMI output. My laptop only has USB input and I want to get the videos to my laptop. Microcenter has a product for $150. Is there a cheaper alternative?

This is not really easy to produce. I had a dual monitor setup with my laptop, but only one HDMI. I didn't want to do VGA. So I got a HDMI-to-USB dongle which was $50 on Amazon at the time - http://a.co/7JRmjNj. It needs to have drivers installed. If you don't have 3.0 ports, it's up. It will jst work at 2.0 speeds.

EDIT: Another option could be to get a card reader (which are really cheap), and use an SD card.

You need to remove the storage media in order to access the files.

HDMI wouldn't even really help you, that is a video out. You'd have to record your recording from the recorder, it doesn't really make sense.

Can you give a model number ? I would imagine it has some other means of connectivity to be honest. Something that transfers data, not video.

Plus the USB to HDMI device you mention is most likely still an HDMI OUT, like if you wanted an additional monitor.

What media does your Canon store the video on?
