Headphones don't play sound.

My headphones don't work, when i go to my devices and look up "playback", I can see my device playing sounds but i cant hear any. I've tried looking this question up online and none of them have an actual answer. So please provide me with one.

...what headphones?
...what soundcard or motherboard?
...have you tried the headphones on another device?
...have you tried other speakers/headphones in the audio jack you are currently using?

I got it to work, by deleting all of my sound drivers and unplugging and plugging my headset in.
It automatically downloaded drivers.
