Help connecting soundbar to tv

I have a sharp HT-SL77 sound bar and I cant get it to connect to my lg 47LB6900. I tried the hdmi and rca connection but I just get static. Theres no optical wire for the sound bar which is what the tv Manuel say I can use. I'm lost I cant return the sound bar I had it for way to long. Brand new never hooked it up.

If the soundbar supports HDMI-ARC and you got static out of it then try changing the audio output type in the TV menu.
The other option is to connect the headphone out of the TV to the aux input on the soundbar.
