My puppy peed on my laptop while it was closed and go it on the top of the laptop. The screen started to go crazy and losing video. I hooked it up to an external monitor an that seems all fine as all the video shows up fine on the external monitor. The backlight on the screen is still on but the screen is still blank. Is the screen shot?

Solution

turn the laptop off ..water and power dont mix...take the keyboard and open it up and use a blow dryer on low..cold/marm to try and dry out the laptop..give the laptop a few days to dry..
Another good piece of advice...
Don't leave your valuable laptop on the floor where an untrained puppy can go pee on it!!!!
You wouldn't leave your car parked in the middle of the street overnight and expect it to be there in the morning....
A little common sense goes a long way....

1) Disassemble remove battery and CMOS battery.
2) Immerse in distilled water and agigtate for 15 Minutes (Screen and Laptop).
3) Buy some alcohol (preferably the 90 % (vs the 70%). Replace water with the alcohol and repeat step 2.
4) preheat oven to 150 degs F. Turn oven off. put disassembled Laptop in oven for 2 Hours.
5) Wait over night and reassemble
6) try it - Most likely not a good chance, but worth a try.

Uric Acid (PEE)) is Highly conductive - Just try peeing on an electric fence. So most likely you have shored out circuits. Yes corrsive also as all acids are.
.. Powering it on with out doing steps 1->6 is the worst thing you could have done, even after letting it dry out.

Bath water is conductive, Add soap and it becomes Highly conductive. No diff between acids and alklines.
.. The skin is realtively high resitance 100Kohms+, Body fluids are conductive, when you pass an electic curent thru the body, the cells heat up, burst causing the resistance to go lower, this continues with more cells rupturing decreasing resistance even more - utill you are classified as a DEAD short.

Distilled water is not conductive utill:
A) The Potential difference becomes high enough to break the Hydrogen and Oxygen molecular bond.
B) you add a substance that ionizes, ie soaps, minerals, table salt, acids ect

Although I do not recommend tap water, you really could use it as first rinse, followed by Alcohol. Distilled water is only 98 cents @ walmart.
