Hi
I was wondering if you could help me to choose the laptop I am looking for
I will explain my preferences
I am not planning to use the laptop for gaming, but I want it to be future proof in the matter of speed and ports.
I prefer aluminum body laptops rather than plastic ones
15 inches and above
HDD SDD combination
good build quality
(4k resolution, 16GB ram and i7 would be better)
My choice was HP 2016 OMEN (I know it’s a gaming laptop) but the plastic body and wobbly touch pad was kind of a bummer.
thank you

OK. This certainly narrows the field considerably - almost to the point of hunting for a unicorn... I shall assume you're not a round-the-clock gamer, but even then I suspect you'll need to compromise on a few preferences, but let's look at these 2 candidates:

Lenovo Y50, $1,200

ASUS Zenbook, $1,400

The Y50 is a fairly old model by now (3+ years) and although it was originally launched as a gaming machine, it's biggest strength has always been that of a very stylish and capable multi-tasker. Early models came standard with...

Do you have specific price range in mind? If not, head on over to Eurocom and knock yourself out.

Cheers,

The Y50 is a fairly old model by now (3+ years) and although it was originally launched as a gaming machine, it's biggest strength has always been that of a very stylish and capable multi-tasker. Early models came standard with a terrible TN panel, but this one offers a 4K display in a 15.6" frame. Some would call it overkill to put 4K in that frame, but here it is. It still runs on a 4th gen quad-core i7 and uses a rather outdated 2GB 860M GPU. The machine itself is a mix of plastic and aluminium and online reviews are generally favourable. The frame feels sturdy and the keyboard handrest has a pleasing rubberized feel to it. HDMI but no DP, and this model comes with Windows 8.1 - like I said, fairly old. So, a great, multi-tasker with generous specs and a reasonable price tag.

The Zenbook is newer in almost every respect and is, in my opinion, the best-looking laptop in this price range. The materials used meet your requirements and build quality is on par with any MacBook. Some would call it a 'MacBook wannabe' but it's at least a wannabe that you can buy - and its specs blow the MacBook out of the water. Starting with a 6th gen quad-core i7, 16GBs of RAM, a 2GB 960M GPU and DP capability via the Thunderbolt 3 port, the Zenbook bows out with Windows 10 on a 512GB NVMe SSD. The Zenbook is the closest I can get to your 'unicorn laptop' - unless you're willing to move into the $2,000+ league.

Best of luck,
GreyCatz.
