Help me find a new laptop!

I apologize for posting a general post and not filling this out first! Here you go - hoping for some responses!

1. What is your budget?
<$1000 US

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
14-15"

3. What screen resolution do you want?
full HD? 1080p?

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
mostly desktop use during the day, but occasionally need to be portable - ideally would like to be able to use the laptop at work with an external display (6-8 hours/day) and then take the laptop home almost every night because I am also able to work from home, without an external display

5. How much battery life do you need?
3+ hours?

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
photo/video editing, productivity - Outlook, Publisher, Excel, etc

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
At least 500 GB?

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
3-4 years

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
Not necessary? I don't use DVDs, etc

Lenovo, HP, Dell, whatever - just not Mac

From Amazon US this ASUS Zenbook is rather more expensive but you do get all the bells and whistles currently available:

This laptop actually began life as a quite decent Zenbook which was then 'boosted' by Computer Upgrade King, which is a small PC business specializing in, well, computer upgrades. They offer a 3-year warranty so you should be good on that front.

While the Lenovo does meet your requirements - just - bear in mind it is a very basic machine. Of course, at under $400 you'll have $600 to spend on something else. But I would definitely recommend getting the Amazon ASUS.
