I am in the market for a budget laptop for me to carry around school. I own another laptop, and much rather use my desktop so I don't want to spend much on this one, rather find something more mobile and perhaps durable/reliable to drag around campus with me. Now, the part that complicates is trying to get the best bang for the buck at say under $500.
My intended use would be general school work (no video editing either), perhaps light gaming I see some options with dedicated GPU for under 500 but I don't know if they are a better option in general, if they turned out to be it definitely seems like a steal. I would like something that is at least useful enough to output some HD video, I love my HDMI on my other laptop it is a must for me these days to be able to output HD movies/shows on the go. Nothing bigger than 15" either.
I have thought about getting a cheap Asus, and found a lot of people suggesting HPs, Lenovos.. some Acer Aspires. I have had no experience with any of those brands. I myself caught some interest from reading on the Acer Timeline series, their mobility and style seemed interesting but I am not sure about their reliability and it seems like I might find better performance at the price.
Right now the laptops I caught myself watching are:

The acer is over the budget, but I would wait to see if I could a cheaper/deal one a 14" model or something. I appreciate any input, thanks!
