I have been a loyal Clevo owner for the past decade. I am currently running Eluktronics P775TM1-G but its time for an upgrade after seven years. I have never had any issues with Clevo laptops, except normal wear and tear (keyboard, cmos batteries replacement and so on).

My minimum requirements for the new laptop are:
  • 3 SSD with two configured as Raid 1 ( 1 TB + 2x 4 TB)
  • Reliable cooling
Nice to have : Display with higher than Full HD resolution.

I am now torn among three options:
SAGER NP9580S (Clevo X580WNS-G) ~ 4,539 USD
Advantages:
  • Available in UHD screen
  • Big chassis – plenty of space for naturally aspirated cooling
  • SD card reader
Disadvantages:
  • Makes it all most impractical to travel with
  • Over 1,000 USD more expensive than competitor.

SAGER NP7571P (Clevo V370WNPQ) ~ 3,250 USD
Advantage:
  • Classical 17’’ laptop with ample space for naturally aspirated cooling
Disadvantages:
  • Reported reliability with keyboard and high noise
  • Only 17’’ FHD available.
SAGER NP9560P (Clevo X560WNR-G) ~ 3,100 USD
Advantages:
  • Screen is available 16" QHD+ 240Hz
  • Power efficient AMD AI 9 HX370
  • Can be travelled with
Disadvantages:
  • Slim design with dual fan design potentially leading to elevated SSD temperatures.
  • Only two SSD but can be configured as Raid 1.
  • Lack of external ports

Note: I looked at SAGER NP9560R but turn off point is Vapor Chamber Cooling – they don’t sell spare and its impossible to replace it a t home. Reported reliability / longevity is about 3 -4 years.

I am not playing games but can need fast acting support for 4K monitors. I don’t know what happen with reviews I am not able to find any feedback on those three laptops and be grateful for your views /opinions.

Hi @USAFRet,
Twice in my life a HDD in laptop failed on me without a warning. Once I lost everything, second time I was ready for it (Raid 1 laptop), so just bought the replacement drive and happily continue my life without interruption.

Presently, the cost of an additional HDD is 71 usd for 2TB drive. A small price to pay for a piece of mind. I am little disappointed that with the new laptops I need to pay 3 times that amount (I cannot find a modern laptop with two HDD support, only SSD) for very little additional benefit. However, I can afford it. This option is also cheaper and more secure than any cloud storage option.

Overall, 2 drives without any RAID is more protective of your data than 2 drives in RAID 1.
Reason...

The RAID 1 only protects against physical drive fail. It does nothing for all the other common means of data loss. Malware, ransomware, accidental deletion, etc, etc.

A real backup routine is far better than a RAID 1.

USAFRet, I respect your point of view. I do have occasional back ups as well against those things as well. So I have back up and Raid1 requirement. I would appreciate some feedback on the selected models.

Without know the use case, and full parts lists...it is hard to know.

GPU/CPU/RAM....

USAFRet, just a reliable laptop with Raid 1, with reliable cooling, preferrable Display with higher than Full HD resolution. Able to support 2x4K monitors. RAM 32 GB with option to expand in the future.

Processor and graphic card of no particular importance ( my Intel i7-8700K at 3.70 GhZ in P775TM1-G covers all my needs).

If they would manufacture P775TM1-G with high res display, I would buy it straight a way as replacement.
