So I'm currently looking at gaming laptops in the $1000 range, and I've finalized my options to the two below:

Gigabyte P55Gv5-NE1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233156

Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-592G-77LB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315130

So far the only major differences I see are that the Gigabyte has an optical drive, a faster HDD, and a lower price, however the Acer has 4gb of VRam, while the Gigabyte only has 2. How important would the 2 gigs of VRam be if I'm using this laptop in college (engineering)? Is it worth the extra $100? Thanks!

If being used in a college setting (especially if you'll have an external monitor and doing things like CAD (a guess from the engineering thing) then the extra VDRAM will be nice, otherwise the GPU may start sharing system DRAM
