Hi guys my SO would like to get a gaming laptop that will be able to play whatever comes out for the next couple of years. Will I know desktop hardware fairly well at least benchmark wise I am less sure what are equivalent laptop parts are. What would I need to build a laptop capable of handling fallout 4 on ultra?

Solution
There are tweaked desktop GTX 980 used in some very high end laptops. They have about 95% the performance of a standard GTX 980 desktop GPU while consuming a little less power than a standard GTX 980.
4th gen i7 and a 970m or higher.

i7 47xxHQ = non k desktop i5(4440/4460) in single and quad core performance.
970m= falls between GTX 950 and GTX 960 in performance.
980m= falls about halfway between GTX 960 and GTX 970 in performance.

Yeah, I remember seeing that on Nvidia's website a few months back. I will just pretend like it doesn't exist to justify my GT72 Purchase last summer, haha. I haven't personally seen any models with it yet, but I would guess it's safe to assume they fall well over $2k if available. Still good news for the future either way. My MSi GT72 has a MXM form gpu, that according to MSi, will be capable of replacement in the future as it was in the past. Here's to hoping!
