hinges

I never owned or used a laptop for very long, but I used to sell used
ones that would have been trashed otherwise. It seems that bad hinges
were very common and the first breakdown to occur. How easily do
laptop hinges go bad? Another common problem was bad pixels.

Another problem over time is the breaking of internal wires to the laptop
monitor because of the constant opening and closing every time it is used.

How long does it take the laptop hinges to break with careful but
consistent daily use?

Is it unrealistic to go a few years without a repair?

I've never owned one.

Beats me. Mine is only 2 years old. I have seen some with damaged wiring (as
I mentioned earlier), but never one with bad hinges. I think that with
proper handling they should last a very long time.

Some never fail, some will fail in weeks or months. It has as much to
do with design and with manufacturing batch as anything. Such failure
is not nearly as common as it once was, but, regretfully, it does still
happen.
