@icepick314:
Nah, they should use bunny rabbits; they breed more quickly. Just strap some weights on their backs so they can trigger the mines.

why cant we have massive EMP pulse machines 😛 they should work on that... and just fry any electronic based mine... now for the old school stuff ya send the puppies lol j/k how about engineer some crazy ground hogs and let them lose and they will just go through the whole path for u 😛 maybe with some kind ability to have them go after some prized thing... who knows...

or whats wrong with some kind of massive ultrasonic or low freq pulse generator that will trigger the mines... then ull have a nice show...

I doubt that you can get reliable enough deactivation of electronics based mines with EMP; the real world isn't like a videogame where an EMP pulse is guaranteed to fry those mines. Even a 0.001% failure rate is too much of a risk when explosives are involved

3-4 minutes per square meter is extremly slow. nothing beats compactor pushed by tank... you make clear path of certain width and quite fast.

[citation][nom]icepick314[/nom]can't we just send out puppies to get rid of the mines?[/citation]

Why not send unwanted babies? Animals deserve our love and respect, dammit!

The problem is that, in some places are surrounded by obstacles that prevent such tanks to enter.

How bout we all compromise and use lawyers and politicians

Sounds like a wonderful idea, but they need to work on speed and penetration a lot before it's practical.
I'm hoping they go a lot further with this. :)

They need to create some sort of automated robotic machine that can go ahead of troops and vehicles and detonate or mark mines. They should also incorporate some sort of detection into boots, low frequency ground pulses that can draw a map of the terrain just slightly ahead. Better to risk one man being blown up or shot than an entire company suddenly discovering they're in a mine field...

does anyone remember that new sound tech that uses other waves to send audible waves over long distances... well what if u have an ultra version of that on some vehicle and send super low frequeces that literally shake things up

I was just thinking the same thing. Some sort of pulse, like the Judge Dredd sonic cannons. 😉

Can cover a square meter in about three or four minutes.

So it'd take like 10 days to clear a 1 mile path wide enough for a tank. Neat technology. Soulds like it needs some work before prime time though.

I agree this too slow, but not all mines might be active when the compactor moves over the area. Some mines are remotely activated at a later time for just this purpose. Compactor moves over the area, then a truck of troops come by thinkintg it is safe and it is not.

This device, would hopefully allow for detection of mines that might not be currently active.
